re: DRAPE - editorial Design
Overview: re:DRAPE is an editorial magazine project exploring sustainable fashion through the lens of traditional Japanese Kimono. By combining cultural heritage with contemporary styling, the publication reimagines how garments can be worn, valued, and preserved in modern life. The magazine emphasizes longevity, creativity, and mindful consumption, encouraging readers to rethink their relationship with clothing.
Role: Graphic designer (Editorial Design, Art Direction, Layout Design)
Concept: The concept of re:DRAPE is centered on “reimagining existing garments.” Rather than treating clothing as disposable, this project explores how traditional kimono can be restyled and adapted for contemporary fashion. By “re-draping,” the magazine communicates the idea that clothing can gain new meaning and beauty through thoughtful styling, care, and reinterpretation.
Problem / Challenge: Modern fashion culture is driven by fast consumption, where clothing is often discarded or replaced quickly.
Even sustainable alternatives like recycling can overlook the value of extending a garment’s life through reuse and creative styling. Also, traditional garments such as Kimono are often perceived as outdated or difficult to integrate into everyday fashion.
Solution: re:DRAPE proposes a more sustainable and creative approach to fashion by:
Demonstrating modern styling techniques using traditional kimono
Presenting visually engaging editorial layouts that inspire reinterpretation
Encouraging readers to extend the life of their clothing through care and rearrangement
Through contemporary design and storytelling, the magazine bridges tradition and modernity while promoting a mindset of sustainability and appreciation.
